Events November November 15, 2011 - New Developments: 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design The Department of Justice has revised its regulations implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This rule took effect on March 15, 2011, clarifies issues that have arisen over the past 20 years, and contains new requirements, including the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design (2010 Standards). The new regulations updated the DOJ’s ADA Accessibility Standards which govern the construction and alteration of facilities covered by the ADA including places of public accommodation, commercial facilities, and state and local government facilities. The new standards are based on revised minimum guidelines previously established by the Access Board. Presenter will review the major changes in the regulations, including effective dates for new construction and alterations, provisions for existing facilities, and other topics related to the implementation of the new 2010 standards. Presenter will follow with an overview of some of the major changes in the scoping and technical provisions in the updated standards. Resource information will also be provided.
